It's clear the YouTube kids have particularly dug Monkey Harris's delicious accent, forthrightness and massive slides, Matt Farah's goofy laugh and "what hath these horsepower-crazed bastards wrought" incredulousness, and Mike "Patina" Musto's never-ending quest for that particularly American combination of mechanical muscle and tire smoke.
Among those shows — Chris Harris on Cars, Tuned and Big Muscle — are the most-watched episodes on /DRIVE, some of which reflect the biggest automotive stories of the past year. Like the release of the Toyobaru twins, the emergence of Horacio Pagani's latest no-expense-spared supercar, the Huayra, and the first videoed test drive (ever) of the altogether batshit Hennessey Venom GT.
Others are just about unadulterated craziness, like that of the World's Fastest Lotus (shown in happier times), an 1,160-hp 1972 Chevy Nova that looks like a shitbox, but is actually insanely well prepped, and, of course, those always-popular driven-and-drifted comparisons. Naturally, one's about the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Because G-Wagen.
It's been a helluva year. A lot's been learned — much of it by trial and error — and while this three-month absence has been fraught with uncertainty for both viewers and producers, /DRIVE is indeed alive and will return soon with new videos. More to come on that.
But first, here are /DRIVE's nine other most watched videos:
